Modalities & Treatment Methods

  • Balance & Proprioception Retraining: focuses on strengthening core muscles and improving body awareness utilizing a variety of exercises and techniques. Core strength and stability reduces risk of injury and is necessary for proper conditioning and strengthening of the rest of the body. It all starts with the core!

  • Cold (low level) Laser Therapy: the use of light to affect tissue. It is shown to relieve muscle and joint pain, relieve arthritis symptoms, relax muscle spasms and increase blood flow to help wound healing.

  • Home Exercise Program: all clients will be given instruction in a home exercise program and each patient will be guided through the exercises in the gym first. See our Amazon store for recommended exercise equipment.

  • Manual Therapy: any form of therapy that uses Dr. Sonnet's hands including joint mobilizations, traction, myofascial release, and muscle trigger point release.

  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation:  the use of an electrical current to help stimulate muscle tissues in the target area to contract.

  • Active Therapeutic Exercise: your dog is guided through a variety of exercises in the gym. These utilize special equipment like exercise balls, cavaletti poles, wobbleboards, stairs, ramps, and the dog treadmill  to focus on strengthening different parts of the body or core strength.

  • Passive Therapeutic Exercise: passive range of motion and stretching exercises help maintain or improve the ability of the joint to flex and extend, increase body awareness, and improve flexibility of muscles.

  • Orthotics and Prosthetics: we can help determine whether your dog would benefit from custom fitted splints, braces, carts or artificial limbs. We work with several companies that provide these services and so we can assist with referring you to the proper place and in retraining movement with orthotics and prosthetics.

  • Thermotherapy: the appropriate use of hot or cold application to reduce inflammation, promote healing, or increase elasticity of tissue. This is sometimes combined with compression.

  • Therapeutic Massage: increases circulation to improve healing, decrease pain, reduce swelling and enhance relaxation.

  • Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy: the use of electromagnetic  energy to improve comfort and reduce soreness, especially that from arthritis. PEMF therapy is also used to facilitate healing. Devices are available for purchase for home use.

Custom Weight Loss Programs

Arizona Veterinary Physical Rehabilitation is proud to offer nutrition consulting services for her patients hoping to lose weight. Dr. Sonnet is a strong advocate of proper nutrition for everyone, including our pets.

Dr. Sonnet specializes in creating personalized canine fat loss programs to help pet parents that have dogs who are battling the bulge. Dr. Sonnet will review your dog's current macronutrients, calorie intake, activity level, and supplements and then determine the best plan for your chubby puppy. Dr. Sonnet understands that the nutritional needs of every pet are different. A customized weight loss plan is the best way to effectively melt away unwanted pounds without losing muscle mass or depriving your pet of appropriate vitamins, minerals, or "love."

Dr. Sonnet can also help take your canine athlete to the next level with an athletic conditioning program. Whether you want to keep your dog sharp in the off season or improve peak performance, our athletic conditioning program can help identify and correct any deficiencies in both the nutrition and fitness and conditioning program.

If a homemade diet is preferred or recommended, additional consulting to create a custom recipe for your pet may be needed. In medically complicated cases, a referral to a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist for a specific formulated diet may be necessary.
